A Missing Woman's Body Has Been Found Inside A 22-Foot Long Python

Her body appeared to be largely intact inside the snake's belly.

A 54-year-old woman in Indonesia's Jambi province was killed and swallowed whole by a 22-foot python, according to local reports

The woman, identified only by her first name Jahrah, worked at a plantation on Sumatra island. She had gone to work at the rubber plantation last Sunday, 23 October, but failed to return home that night.

When her husband went to look for her, he only found her personal belongings such as her headscarf and jacket. The next day, a search party found a reticulated python with a large bulge in its stomach.

Following which, locals killed the snake to check the reason behind the bulge.

"After the residents split the snake's belly [open], it turned out that it was the missing woman who had died," Betara Jambi police chief S Herafa was quoted as saying by CNN Indonesia.

While the woman's body was chewed, her body appeared to be largely intact inside the snake's belly

No one witnessed the woman being eaten by the snake.

"Everyone was astonished," the head of the local Terjun Gajah village, Anto, was quoted as saying.

"It turned out that the woman we were looking for was in the snake’s stomach."

Pythons typically eat smaller animals, swallowing their food whole. While cases of humans being swallowed are rare, this is not the first time someone in Indonesia has been killed and eaten by a python.

Between 2017 and 2018 there were two similar deaths reported, according to BBC.
