The first phase of the Bantuan Keluarga Malaysia (BKM) financial aid scheme is going to be paid out between 28 March and 8 April

According to New Straits Times, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob made the announcement on Sunday, 20 March.

He said the assistance is to ease the financial burden of Malaysians earning low incomes, especially in preparation for the upcoming Ramadan season.

Some 8.6 million recipients will benefit from the RM2 billion allocation, including four million households, 1.2 million senior citizens (who are single or without a spouse), and 3.4 million single individuals in the B40 income group.

Ismail Sabri said recipients will receive between RM100 and RM300 this time based on their eligibility

The rest of the cash assistance will be made in three other payouts later this year.

Eligible parties for the BKM cash assistance include:
– Households with an income of RM5,000 and below,
– Senior citizens (aged 60 years and above) who are single or without a spouse and with an income of RM5,000 and below, and
– Individuals (aged 21 to 59 years) with an income of RM2,500 and below.

Under the initiative, households will receive cash assistance of between RM400 and RM2,000 based on their total household income and the number of children they have.

Meanwhile, eligible senior citizens will receive a total of RM600 and individuals a total of RM350.

Additional cash assistance will also be given to household recipients who are single parents (extra RM500) or senior citizen parents (extra RM300).

Eligible parties will receive the cash aid automatically in their bank accounts registered with the Inland Revenue Board (LHDN)

As with the Bantuan Prihatin Rakyat (BPR) and Bantuan Khas COVID-19 (BKC) payouts in 2021, previous recipients do not need to newly apply for the BKM cash aid.

Meanwhile, for those without bank accounts, payments will be made into new Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN) accounts that recipients can collect from 30 March onwards.

Ismail Sabri added that applicants who were wrongly rejected may submit appeals to the BKM website up to 2 May to ensure that all who are eligible will benefit from the scheme.

Recipients may check their approval status on the official BKM portal from 28 March.

BKM was introduced during the 2022 Budget announcement last year:
