On Saturday, 19 November, Malaysian voters, both new and old, will be flooding polling stations across the nation to carry out their civic duties.

But the run-up to polling day has seen political hopefuls, both upstarts and veterans, leaving nothing to chance in their efforts to shore up support from their constituents.

In the case of Quek Tai Seong, Barisan Nasional's (BN) candidate for the Indera Mahkota parliamentary seat, videos of him circulating across the internet show him in the midst of an impassioned plea to those attending a dinner event on 15 November, to vote him into power for the 15th General Election (GE15).

According to Sin Chew Daily, the sudden outpouring of emotion took place at a "Kuantan Parliamentary voter exchange dinner party" that was jointly held by the Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA), alongside other units.

During his speech to a dinner hall brimming with people, the MCA candidate quickly grew emotional, wiping away tears as he begged those present to show their support for the party by voting for him

"I need all of you to give me strength," he implored. "I don't want people to say that even Malaysian Chinese people don't support the MCA!"

"Our party wants to do many things! Which is why this time, you must support me [in the upcoming election]. I'm begging all of you!" Quek cried.

Quek also made promises to perform if he wins the election while acknowledging BN's history of corruption

The MCA candidate claimed that if he doesn't fulfil his duty in representing the voice of Kelantan's people in parliament, voters could feel free to scold him.

He then added in an exasperated voice, "Which is why I don't want to hear anything more about [our party] being untrustworthy!"

MCA vice-president Datuk Seri Ti Lian Ker and BN advisor to the Indera Mahkota constituency Datuk Pang were also present at the campaign event.

This GE15, Quek will stand against Indera Mahkota's incumbent and Perikatan Nasional (PN) candidate Saifuddin Abdullah, along with Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate Zuraidi Ismail, and Parti Pejuang Tanah Air (Pejuang) candidate Mohamad Nor Sundari.
