A woman walking her dog in a residential area in Alor Setar, Kedah discovered a body in a drain yesterday, 26 May

According to the New Straits Times, 51-year-old Lee Ming Ching said she was exercising at Taman Derga Jaya yesterday evening when her dog suddenly started barking continuously.

Lee witnessed her dog sniffing and digging the soil in a particular area.

"I felt uneasy, thinking that it had sighted a monitor lizard and acted weirdly when it refused to go home with me.

"Confused by my dog's behaviour, I [walked] over to the area with a grate covering the drain and saw a man's body in it," Harian Metro quoted her as saying.

Lee called the police after discovering the body at 6.30pm.

A forensics team from the Kedah police contingent was sent to the scene to investigate and identify the body

Kota Setar district police chief ACP Siti Nor Salawati Saad revealed that the deceased's wife and child were called to the scene to identify the body, reported Buletin TV3.

The deceased's son said his 58-year-old father gave his personal belongings, such as MyKad, bank card, and wallet, to his mother before leaving the house at about 3.30pm without informing her where he was going.

"The victim has a medical history of Parkinson's and mental problems for about 13 years.

"Preliminary investigation did not find any criminal element and the body was brought to Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah's forensics department for post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death," said Siti Nor Salawati.

Meanwhile, Lee added that she often saw the deceased at a nearby restaurant, where he frequently bought coffee, and she referred to him as 'uncle', reported Harian Metro.
