Britney Spears' Father To Step Down As Conservator Of The Singer's USD60 Million Estate

However, even though Jamie Spears may no longer control the singer's estate and much of her life, there's no indication that the court will revoke the conservatorship as someone else may be appointed in the father's place.

Britney Spears' father Jamie Spears has said that he intends to step down as the singer's conservator after over a decade, amidst controversy and months of public pressure from Britney's supporters

Responding to a petition for him to be removed as conservator, the father's lawyer said that while there were "no actual grounds" for removal, he has become "the unremitting target of unjustified attacks".

The legal response, sighted by SAYS, went on to state that although it's "highly debatable whether a change in conservator at this time" will serve Britney's best interests, her father "does not believe that a public battle with his daughter" over his continuing service as her conservator is in her best interests.

"So even though he must contest this unjustified petition for his removal, Mr Spears intends to work with the court and his daughter's new attorney to prepare for an orderly transition to a new conservator."

In July this year, Britney, in an emotional appeal to court, called the 13-year-long conservatorship a "f---ing cruelty", and said that she wants to press charges against her father for "conservatorship abuse"

Her career has been in the hands of legal guardians since 2008 over mental health concerns.

The court-ordered agreement, which is split into two parts, gave her father control over her estate and other aspects of her life. While one part covers her estate and financial affairs, the other is for her as a person.

Her father stepped down as his daughter's personal conservator in 2019 due to health issues, following which Britney filed a petition in July 2021 to remove him from controlling her estate, too.

She also went on to say that she will not perform again while he controlled her life.

Following Britney's allegations in July, her father, however, said that he will not step down.

The singer's lawyer, Mathew Rosengart, has welcomed her father's latest decision, calling it a "vindication for Britney"

"We are pleased that Mr Spears and his lawyer have today conceded in a filing that he must be removed. It is vindication for Britney," CNN quoted the singer's lawyer as saying.

"We are disappointed, however, by their ongoing shameful and reprehensible attacks on Ms Spears and others. We look forward to continuing our vigorous investigation into the conduct of Mr Spears, and others, over the past 13 years, while he reaped millions of dollars from his daughter's estate, and I look forward to taking Mr Spears's sworn deposition in the near future."

However, even though Jamie Spears may no longer control Britney's estate, there's no indication that the court will revoke the conservatorship as someone else may be appointed in his place

As stated in the legal response, while the father intends to step down as his daughter's conservator, he also wants a transition period during which they would work with the court to find a new conservator.

The legal response also states that "there are no urgent circumstances" justifying the father's immediate suspension and that an orderly transition based on "cooperation" will be in Britney's best interests.

"Regardless of his formal title, Mr Spears will always be Ms Spears' father, he will always love her unconditionally, and he will always look out for her best interests," the document further states.

Meanwhile, taking to her Instagram account earlier today, 13 August, Britney shared that she's now "one step" closer to freedom

On the other hand, former K-pop star Seungri has been sentenced to three years' jail for his involvement in prostitution and gambling-related offences:
