Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that RM2.8 billion will be allocated for road maintenance and federal bridges

While tabling Budget 2024 today, 13 October, Anwar, who is also the Finance Minister, said that RM300 million out of the RM 2.8 billion will be specifically allocated for G1 to G4 contractors.

According to Anwar, as of August 2023, more than 4,100 potholes on federal roads have been identified and repaired.

Following that, Anwar said that the state governments should make use of the RM5.4 billion allocated to Malaysian Road Records Information (MARRIS), provided by the Federal Goverment, to ensure that the roads in every state are in the best condition.

Additionally, he said RM100 million will be allocated for the maintenance of traffic lights

He said the money will be used to replace existing lights with LED types that can save up to 60% of electricity.

Another RM50 million will also be set aside for the same purpose in all local councils nationwide.

He added that RM50 million will be provided to improve high-risk accident areas, as well as to upgrade existing traffic lights on Federal Roads to smart traffic lights to help alleviate traffic congestion.
