A car accidentally crashed into a tombstone while reversing down a slope in Teluk Intan, Perak on Sunday, 26 March

According to Sin Chew Daily, the accident occurred at a graveyard at Batu 13, Jalan Bidor, when a driver reversed too fast, lost control of the car, and struck a tomb during the Qing Ming Festival.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported from the accident.

The Qing Ming Festival, also known as Tomb Sweeping Day, is one of the most important traditional festivals in China. The cultural festival is the time for Chinese people worldwide to pay their respects to their ancestors by cleaning their  family tombs, and placing offerings on their family tombs.

The family of the deceased decided not to take action against the driver as there were little to no damages inflicted upon the tombstone

"The owner of this tomb lived in Langkap, Hilir Perak during his lifetime. The family of the deceased visited the grave after the accident and found that the tomb was not seriously damaged," Teluk Intan Hokkien Association acting president Zhan Shengcong (transliteration) told the Mandarin daily.

"They decided not to pursue the matter with a tolerant attitude," he continued.

He hopes that the grave sweeping visitors would be careful throughout their visit, and to be mindful of themselves and others.
