Yesterday, 14 June, a married couple was arrested for attempting to steal money twice from a donation box in Masjid Kuala Abang, Terengganu

According to Utusan Malaysia, the couple first attempted their crime on 6 June, then again on 8 June, failing both times.

A closed-circuit television (CCTV) caught the young couple in the act and the video of incident has since gone viral on social media.

In the two-minute video captured on 6 June, the duo can be seen trying to break open the donation box.

The video shows the man motioning for his wife to keep watch outside, as he continues to crack open the box, but his attempts are unfruitful.

The video assisted the Dungun district police to identity and detain the 26-year-old man and his 23-year-old wife

Dungun district police chief Supt Baharudin Abdullah told Kosmo! their analysis of the footage revealed that the couple first tried to break open the donation box at 10.14am on 6 June, and again at 2.00am on 8 June.

"The woman's urine test was clean, but her husband tested positive for methamphetamine," he added.

The case is being probed under Section 311 and 588 of the Penal Code.
