A group PhD and graduate students are going viral in China for selling sausages while engaging their customers in philosophical discussions

The nine students from Sun Yat-sen University in Guangdong province take turns selling sausages at night after completing their research during the day.

The group went viral on 17 July after a video showed them grilling sausages on a modified electric motorcycle with a gas canister.

The students aim to encourage more discussions on philosophy in a flexible and casual manner

"We are all engaged in philosophical research and hope to use sausages as a medium to have intellectual exchanges with customers, and become good friends with them," Ziheng, one of the students, told Yangtse Evening Post.

The 28-year-old said that the group will answer one philosophical question, discuss social issues, academic theories and share their own experience in exchange for each sausage sold.

According to South China Morning Post, the students find selling sausages helps relieve their anxiety and destress.

Being a philosophy student involves significant mental labour during the day. Selling sausages at night helps them destress and stay physically active

The group also tutors students preparing for their graduate entrance exams.

Selling sausages helps them manage their academic anxiety, said Pangda, another group member said.

"For students who are usually confined to their studies on campus, selling sausages on the street allows us to meet a variety of people, serving as a unique way to connect with society," he explained, adding that he enjoys selling sausages.

"High income does not necessarily bring happiness. Young people should have passion. Even small tasks can bring great joy."

In a day, the students can earn between 100 yuan (RM64) to 200 yuan (RM130) from selling sausages

One sausage ranges between 3 yuan (RM1.90) to 5 yuan (RM3.20).

The students sell sausages from 10pm to midnight.

Their entrepreneurial endeavour has earned them praise across Chinese social media platforms.
