The New Balance 1906R has emerged as a popular choice among sneaker enthusiasts, and for good reason

This shoe blends comfort, style, and versatility, making it a go-to option for many.

After thorough testing and evaluation for three months, here's a detailed review of the New Balance 1906R, including its pros and cons.

Its standout features include the hybrid design, familiarity, and comfort

The insole is a significant contributor to this, offering a moulded design with pillow-like craters that enhance stepping comfort.

While it lacks a structured support plate, which may not be ideal for everyone, the insole is completely removable, allowing you to swap it out for your preferred orthotics.

This flexibility is a notable advantage for those with specific support needs.

The 1906R also boasts a hybrid design, repurposing tooling from other successful New Balance models like the 2002R and 8860 V2. This approach ensures a familiar and reliable comfort level, making it a great choice for those who have enjoyed these previous models.

The shoe's name, 1906R, pays homage to New Balance's heritage, pointing to the brand's inception year, which adds a nostalgic touch.

Durability and flexibility are key highlights of the 1906R's outsole

The thick, rugged design is built to withstand daily wear, while the flexibility provided by the flex grooves ensures a comfortable walking and running experience.

The cushioning setup, featuring an ABZORB midsole, is lightweight yet substantial. The combination with the Stability Web outsole technology for arch support and N-ergy outsole designed to absorb shock made running and walking a comfortable experience for extended wear.

However, the slight heel-to-toe drop might be noticeable to some, pushing wearers onto their toes. This may take some getting used to, especially for those accustomed to flatter shoe profiles.

The New Balance 1906R offers a wide range of materials and styles, catering to diverse preferences

The one that I reviewed is made out of nubuck leather and features an upper mesh. It weighs in at around 369.5 grams and comes in castlerock with natural indigo colourways.

That said, the 1906R line features plenty of options. From open-celled mesh to synthetic overlays, and even premium versions with rugged canvas, suede, and vegan leather, there's something for everyone.

The model that I tried on was particularly breathable, enhancing comfort during wear. I felt secure running downhill even after a drizzle or heavy downpour thanks to the 1906R's outsole.

The 1906R fits true to size, making it a reliable choice for most wearers. Unlike some New Balance models that may require sizing adjustments, the 1906R's consistent fit ensures comfort straight out of the box.

This reliability in sizing is a significant plus, particularly for those ordering online without the opportunity to try them on first.

Overall, the New Balance 1906R is a versatile and comfortable sneaker that lives up to its hype

Its hybrid design, durable outsole, and variety of material options make it a standout in the current market.

While it has a few drawbacks, such as the non-structured insole and synthetic overlays in some versions, these are minor compared to the overall performance and comfort it offers.

Overall, the New Balance 1906R is worth considering for anyone looking for a reliable, stylish, and comfortable sneaker. Whether for daily wear, jogs, workouts or special occasions, this shoe delivers on its promises, making it a worthy addition to any footwear collection.
