CNY Road Rage Lands SG Man In Trouble For Smashing A Car's Rear Windscreen In Johor
Johor police chief M Kumar urged all road users to exercise patience and consideration to ensure safety, especially during the festive season.
Police in Genting Highlands arrested a Singaporean man, yesterday, 12 February, after a video showing him smashing the rear windscreen of another vehicle in Pagoh, Johor, went viral
Johor police chief M Kumar said the arrest was made by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Genting Highlands, Pahang, following a report lodged at 2.36pm on 10 February after the video of the altercation gained widespread attention on social media, reported The Star.
The 54-second video, which was uploaded on Facebook community group, Info Kemalangan/Jenayah Terkini Seluruh Malaysia, showed a red Mitsubishi Lancer being approached by two men.
As the driver attempted to drive away, one of the men lunged towards the car and slammed his hand on the windscreen.In response, the driver exited his car with what appeared to be a golf club and swung it aggressively at the two men. Subsequently, the man struck the rear screen of a black MPV, causing damage.
Following the arrest, Kumar said the suspect in his 40s is currently being held in remand until tomorrow, 14 February. He added that the case is being investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code for committing mischief, which carries a jail term of between one and five years, a fine, or both, upon conviction.
Kumar said investigations found that the incident was caused by the victim's action of blocking the suspect's vehicle on the emergency lane along the highway
"This caused the suspect, who we believe to be a foreigner, to be dissatisfied, so he got out and broke the rear window of the victim's car," he added.
Following the incident, Kumar also urged all road users to exercise patience and consideration to ensure safety, particularly during the holiday season.
