Council Demolishes Illegally Built 'Santorini' In Cameron Highlands As A Warning
The picturesque Greek island-inspired tourist attraction opened in April this year.
The Cameron Highlands District Council has taken action to demolish a Santorini-inspired tourist attraction in Cameron Highlands after it was found to have not received approval from authorities
In a statement on Facebook, the council said the demolition operation took place from 9am to 11.30am on Monday, 5 August.
The operation was led by Cameron Highlands District Council president Azmil Hadid Maznan and involved staff from various enforcement agencies.
The operation involved personnel from the Cameron Highlands District and Land Office, the police, the Pahang State Enforcement Unit, the Cameron Highlands Public Works Department, and Tenaga Nasional Berhad.
The demolition was carried out in accordance with Section 70(1) under the Street, Drainage, and Building Act 1974 (Act 133) for construction without prior approval
"Hopefully, this enforcement action will serve as a warning and reminder to any party intending to carry out development projects to fully comply with the relevant procedures and regulations," the council said.
It is understood that the picturesque Greek island-inspired tourist attraction, called Cameron Santorini, opened in April this year
According to Google reviews, entrance tickets cost RM40 for adults, and RM20 for children and senior citizens.
In a later report, the site owner told The Star that he would seek approval from the relevant authorities to reopen the attraction.
