Govt & 3 Others Ordered To Pay RM5 Million To Altantuya's Family After 15 Years
Mongolian model Altantuya Shaariibuu was murdered in October 2006.
The Shah Alam High Court has ordered the government and three other individuals to pay Mongolian model Altantuya Shaariibuu's family RM5 million 15 years after a negligence lawsuit was filed
According to Free Malaysia Today, the verdict was made by Justice Vazeer Alam Mydin Meera during an online proceeding this morning, 16 December.
This comes after the court found that Altantuya's family had successfully proved their claim on the balance of probabilities against the defendants, who are political analyst Razak Baginda, former policemen Sirul Azhar Umar and Azilah Hadri, as well as the government.
Razak was the aide to then deputy prime minister Najib Razak during the period of the murder, while the two policemen were convicted for killing Altantuya.
Sirul is said to be currently being held at an Australian detention centre, while Azilah is on death row at the Kajang Prison.
The negligence lawsuit was filed by Altantuya's father, Shaariibuu Setev, his wife Altantsetseg Sanjaa, and Altantuya's son Mungunshagai on 4 June 2007
They demanded RM100 million in damages, claiming that there was a conspiracy surrounding Altantuya's murder.
She was murdered in October 2006 at Mukim Bukit Raja in Klang, Selangor, and her remains were blown up with military-grade explosives.
In a separate court, Razak was initially charged with abetting Azilah and Sirul in connection to the murder, but he was later acquitted without being called into defence in 2015.
In 2009, Sirul and Azilah were convicted for killing Altantuya, but the Court of Appeal overturned their conviction in 2013.
Six years later, the Federal Court restored their conviction and sentenced them to death. Sirul then fled to Australia before the final verdict.
In December 2019, former policeman Azilah Hadri confessed for the first time to the killing of Altantuya:
During the trial for the RM100 million negligence suit, an investigating officer said Altantuya told him to look for Razak if anything happens to her:
