Customer Claims He Paid RM356 For Wagyu But Gets Ribeye Instead – Eatery Says Otherwise

The chef allegedly told Jimmy that the meat was 100% Australian wagyu, but it just tasted like regular beef.

A customer recently ordered wagyu beef but was left dissatisfied when the supposedly premium protein tasted more like a cheaper cut instead

According to Stomp, the customer, identified as Jimmy, detailed that he visited a hot pot restaurant in Jurong, Singapore, on 30 November, and ordered a SGD110 (RM356) Australian wagyu beef hot pot set for four people.

Unfortunately, upon tasting the wagyu meat, Jimmy said that it tasted more like "normal ribeye" meat.

Confused, he consulted the restaurant staff and asked if what he received was truly wagyu, to which the staff confirmed that it was. But, Jimmy remained skeptical.

"What they had was definitely not wagyu. When we verified with the manager and chef, they insisted that this was indeed wagyu. The chef told us it was 100% legitimate wagyu, but it tasted just like normal ribeye," he told Stomp.

Coming forth to defend their product was the director of the hot pot restaurant, providing proof that the establishment does indeed order in and sell Australian wagyu beef

The director, surnamed Lim, shared images of the restaurant's menu alongside an invoice to prove that what Jimmy ordered was the real deal.

"As you can see from the image of our menu on steamboat sets, we only offer two types of beef – normal beef slice and wagyu beef. I have also attached an image of our past tax invoice of our purchase of wagyu beef from our supplier to prove that our beef is indeed wagyu," Lim said.

Lim also shared more proof of the legitimacy of the premium beef with Stomp, providing an image differentiating the cheaper cuts of meat to its more premium counterpart.

"I have attached a picture of both our beef slices, the left being the normal beef and the right being the wagyu beef... We hope that our evidence proves the authenticity of our food," the restaurant director said.
