Datuk Who Assaulted A Couple In A Steamboat Restaurant Has Been Arrested

Another suspect involved in the incident has also been arrested.

A Datuk has been arrested for intimidating and slapping a couple in a steamboat restaurant in Petaling Jaya, Selangor

According to New Straits Times, the police arrested the 42-year-old Datuk, along with another 39-year-old suspect, in Mutiara Damansara at about 3.40pm yesterday, 14 January.

Selangor Criminal Investigations Department chief ACP Datuk Fadzil Ahmat confirmed that one of the suspects holds a Datukship and that he has a criminal record for criminal intimidation.

The Star reported that the police record lodged against him was dated 2019.

The police will be submitting a remand application to investigate the suspects' backgrounds.

Prior to the arrest, Petaling Jaya district police chief ACP Nik Ezanee Nik Faisal revealed that the incident started because the suspects were told off for talking too loudly in the restaurant.

Following the complaint, he said one of the suspects hit the victim with his hand and was suspected of slapping a female patron at the restaurant before leaving.

"Both suspects, who were drunk, attacked the person who made the complaint," Nik Ezanee said.

However, the initial police report states that the woman whom the suspect had slapped is a waitress

The Star noted that there is a discrepancy in reporting, saying Chinese vernacular newspapers reported that the person whom the suspect slapped was the victim's girlfriend.

SAYS, too, reported based on a witness' account, which was communicated to a friend, that it was the victim's girlfriend who was slapped.

"My friend said the hardest thing to swallow in the incident was that when the guy — who called himself 'Datuk' — was about to go out, he saw the boy's girlfriend, he went forward and slapped her viciously. I was also angry when I saw the video," read the viral post that shed light on the issue.
