Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said that the COVID-19 vaccine was not the cause of a senior nurse's death in Kedah

Speaking to Free Malaysia Today, Dr Noor Hisham said the 45-year-old woman — who was attached with the Penang General Hospital — died from a heart attack.

"An investigation by the Ministry of Health (MOH) shows her death was not a side effect of the vaccine," he told the news portal, adding that the vaccine has not led to any deaths in Malaysia.

"Even if there are side effects, they would be mild."

In a report by New Straits Times, Kuala Muda police chief ACP Adzli Abu Shah echoed the same, saying that the nurse had a history of high blood pressure.

Adzli said the nurse received the COVID-19 vaccine on 12 March

Four days after the vaccination, the nurse complained of body aches and shortness of breath.

The police said on the night of the incident on Tuesday, 16 March, the nurse told her husband that she wanted to rest. She went to bed at 11.30pm.

"When the husband went to check on her at 2am, there was no response from her," elaborated Adzli.

"He checked her pulse, and when there was none detected, he contacted the Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital for assistance."

He said a medical team later pronounced the nurse dead and that no criminal elements were found.

Dr Noor Hisham and the police's statements on the issue come after viral WhatsApp messages alleged that the nurse died after receiving the vaccine

SAYS sighted a viral message written in Chinese, reading, "How can people get vaccinated without worrying after hearing about the first death following vaccination?"

"She was a nurse, only 45 years old, and a mother of three children. (We demand) MOH to not withhold any information and tell us which country's vaccine she was given."

The message — which originated from a private Facebook group — is attached to a news article, with a headline that reads, "The first case in Malaysia! Female nurse suffering from high blood pressure died of heart attack after vaccination".

When reporters quizzed Science, Technology, And Innovation Minister Khairy Jamaluddin about the circulation of the viral messages yesterday, 18 March, he said that the case was being investigated and that he could not give any conclusive remarks at the moment.
