A 29-year-old man broke into a house in mainland Penang to rape and sodomise a woman who was sleeping before killing her on Saturday, 28 August
According to New Straits Times, the victim — identified as a 40-year-old woman who worked as a clerk at a furniture factory in Sungai Bakap — was believed to be suffocated to death by the suspect.
Her body was found under the bed in a room on the ground floor of the two-storey house located in Taman Seruling Emas, Nibong Tebal.
A friend of the victim saw the man leaving the house on a motorcycle at 3pm on the day of the incident. The 41-year-old friend was outside the victim's house at the time as they had made a prior arrangement to meet.
Seberang Prai Selatan police chief Supt Lee Chong Chern said the friend then alerted the victim's sister.
Following which, the sister called up a 52-year-old male friend for help.

"When he arrived at the victim's house, he saw the door was ajar. He then called the Sungai Bakap police station to ask for help to check the house," said Lee
"A sergeant, who arrived shortly later, accompanied him to check inside and the house was found to be in a mess."
"It was then that he discovered the victim under a bed in the room on the ground floor."
During the investigation, the victim's neighbour also told the police that he spotted a man leaving the house on the same afternoon.
The neighbour took down the number plate of the motorcycle and gave it to the police, which eventually led to the suspect's arrest.

The suspect confessed that he went to a friend's house to smoke methamphetamine on Friday, 27 August
The suspect then borrowed his friend's motorcycle and rode to the back lane of the victim's house in Taman Seruling Emas.
"He climbed over the back wall into the victim's house. He subsequently opened the windows before gaining entry into the house," Lee revealed.
"The suspect then went into the bedroom on the ground floor and found the victim sleeping, only in her shorts. He then raped and sodomised the victim."
The superintendent added that the victim fought against the suspect who broke into her house.
She shouted for help, but the suspect is said to have stuffed her underpants into her mouth to silence her.

"As the victim continued to fight, the suspect covered her mouth with his hand. After a while, the victim stopped moving, believed to have died," Lee said
"Even after the victim had died, the suspect continued to rape and sodomise her several times."
"Later, he dragged the victim and hid her body under her bed."
"He then ransacked the house and took the victim's cell phone, cash, and a locket."
According to the suspect's testimony, he left the crime scene at about 2pm on Saturday to return the motorcycle to his friend before walking back to his home, which is located in the same neighbourhood as the victim's house.
Later in the evening, the suspect rode another motorcycle with his younger sibling to hide in Changkat Sungai Jawi.
In a bid to cover his tracks, the 29-year-old man with five previous records for criminal and drug offences threw the victim's belongings into a river.
The case is currently being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, reported Bernama.
