3-Day Drug Den Crackdown Sees Over 5,200 Arrested Including Dozens Of Teen Drug Peddlers

A special police operation over the weekend saw the seizure of over RM3.5 million ringgit worth of drugs and the detention of 5,200 people including dozens of teenagers
'Op Tapis Khas', conducted on 21 to 23 January, took place in various states across the country including Selangor, Sabah, Perak, as well as Negeri Sembilan, involving 367 drug dens or hideouts. The highest number of arrests were in Selangor.
According to New Straits Times, Bukit Aman Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) director Datuk Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay said, "During the three-day operations, the police, at the same time, also detained 942 drug peddlers including teenagers. A total of 129 detainees were foreigners."
Those detained were 4,987 men and 213 women aged between 13 and 60. Of that number, there were two 13-year-olds and 74 aged between 14 and 18. Based on Utusan Malaysia's report, those aged 13 were tested positive for drugs.

Police also seized over 212kg and almost 1,200 litres of a dozen variety of drugs such as heroin, syabu, ketum water, and codeine worth RM3.58 million.
Cash, jewellery, as well as dozens of vehicles — all worth RM2.39 million in total — were confiscated from the suspects.
The top cop said this operation will be carried out once a month under the Jihad Dadah programme as part of efforts to combat the threat of drugs among the community
"The objective of this operation is to trace and detain drug pushers and dealers; to take action on hardcore drug addicts and apprehend criminals wanted for drug-related offences," theSundaily reported him as saying.
