A 19-month-old girl in Kelantan died of heatstroke on Tuesday, 25 April, the fourth day of Hari Raya Aidilfitri

Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital's forensic unit confirmed Nur Imani Ahmad Farris Fadzlee's cause of death as heatstroke after a post-mortem examination on Tuesday, reported New Straits Times.

According to Imani's parents, 24-year-old Ahmad Farris Fadzlee Mohd Nasir and 25-year-old Yawaree Samoh, the girl had been suffering from a severe cough for almost a week.

However, they only rushed their daughter from their home in Wakaf Che Yeh to the hospital in Kota Bharu on Monday night, 24 April, after she appeared weak and tired.

After treating her, the parents said a female doctor at the emergency unit told them to take their daughter home

They said the doctor gave them some medicine, including for her cough. However, after they got home, Imani's condition continued to worsen.

The parents said their daughter's hands and face turned blue and she passed away on her grandmother's lap at about 7.20am on Tuesday.

Imani's father, Ahmad Farris, said that while they were devastated over her death, they have accepted it as fate

The girl's grandmother, Wan Maheran Omar, however, questioned why the hospital did not admit her granddaughter.

"My grandchild was very weak, but the doctor did not send her to a ward. Instead, she told us to take her home and give the medicine," she said, as quoted by New Straits Times.

The grandmother added that Imani was a cheerful girl and that her death is a big loss to the family.

Kelantan health authorities had previously confirmed that at least two children in Kelantan had died of heatstroke recently.
