Recently, two men's attempt to mug a woman walking near Wisma FGV, Kuala Lumpur was thwarted by a GrabFood rider's daring action

The incident on Sunday night, 21 August, was captured on closed-circuit television (CCTV).

The CCTV footage has since gone viral across social media platforms with the transportation cum food delivery app Grab now looking for the delivery rider to reward him for his quick thinking.

According to the footage, the woman, carrying a handbag, was walking alone at about 8.20pm on the pavement in the city centre when two men on a kapcai approach her. One of them gets down and tries to snatch her handbag, but struggles. He tries to get back on the kapcai after the woman chases after him.

She catches up to the man before his partner on the kapcai enters the frame, the viral footage shows. As she tries to take back her handbag a tussle ensues but the man manages to get back on the kapcai.

Enter the GrabFood rider

Just as the man manages to get back on his partner's kapcai, the footage shows the GrabFood rider entering the frame. Presumably, he had noticed the mugging attempt and wasted no time in deliberation.

The rider is seen ramming into the suspects' kapcai. The impact causes them to lose balance, giving the rider enough time to jump off his motorcycle and help the woman stop the two men before they could flee.

As the woman, who had refused to let go of the men, and the GrabFood rider tussled with the suspects, other motorists and bikers come to their assistance. They eventually managed to nab the suspects.

After the video went viral, people praised the woman for fighting back and commended the rider for not worrying about damaging his vehicle

Many also called on Grab to assist the rider in helping to repair his motorcycle.

Responding to comments online, the company took to its Twitter to say that it is now looking for the rider to reward him for his act of being a Good Samaritan. As of this writing, Grab is still trying to find his details.

"If there's anyone who has friends who know who the abang rider is or recognises his number plate, please do let us know because we are looking for him to reward something!" Grab said.

Meanwhile, the suspects, aged 32 and 35, were handed over to the police. They are currently on remand until Friday, 26 August.

According to a statement by Dang Wangi district police chief ACP Noor Delhan Yahya, the victim was identified as an 18-year-old foreign student and she's currently on a personal visit to Malaysia.

On the suspects, he said that the 32-year-old is a local while the other is a foreigner.

Police also seized a motorcycle, two helmets, and a set of keys.
