Japanese Student Offers Snack To Muslim Aunty To Break Fast While Conversing In Malay

Her Malaysian friends taught her several useful phrases in Malay.

A Japanese-Thai student from Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore received praise for speaking fluently in Malay with the owner of a Muslim stall at her campus

The student, Hana, posted their wholesome interaction on her TikTok account, @hanae_nakaa, and warmed the hearts of netizens.

The 38-second long TikTok video depicted the student arriving at the stall at around 7:45pm

At her time of arrival, the Malay aunty was having her iftar meal. Hana, cheerfully greeted the elderly woman and wished her "Selamat membuka puasa!(Happy fast-breaking!)".

Then, she passed a KitKat to the aunty, who accepted it with a smile and thanked Hana.

The duo continued chatting in Malay, with the aunty asking if Hana had eaten yet, to which she replied no. 

The stall owner jokingly replied with "Lambat lah. You makan lambat, kerja pun lambat (So slow lah. You eat slow, you work also slow)".

In the end of the video, they made heart gestures, before ending their conversation.

At the time of writing, the video has garnered over 220,000 views and 17,000 likes.

The Japanese student learnt Malay from studying in Malaysia

According to Must Share News, Hana said that her friends from Malaysia have taught her many useful phrases.

In her TikTok account, she has uploaded videos of herself taking a Malay language class at NTU.
