Johor Sultan To Be The 17th Agong Beginning 31 January 2024
The Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Shah, will be his deputy.
The Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar, has been elected as the 17th Yang di-Pertuan Agong by the Conference of Rulers
During their 263rd meeting at Istana Negara yesterday, 26 October, the Conference of Rulers agreed on Sultan Ibrahim's appointment, according to the Keeper of the Rulers' Seal, Syed Danial Syed Ahmad.
The meeting was attended by the outgoing Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah and all the Malay Rulers, except those from Kelantan and Perlis.
Sultan Ibrahim will replace the Sultan of Pahang, Al-Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah, whose term as the 16th Agong ends on 30 January next year
Meanwhile, the Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Shah, has been elected as the Deputy Yang di-Pertuan Agong. Both their terms will last five years, the Keeper of the Rulers' Seal said.
He mentioned that based on the provisions of Paragraph 3, Part I, Third Schedule of the Constitution, the decision of the Conference of Rulers has been submitted to both houses of parliament.
"Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has also been informed," he added.
