After 16 years, the multi-levelled AEON store of Sunway Pyramid will officially cease operations on 31 July

In a post made to Sunway Pyramid's official Facebook page, the shopping mall, in the voice of its well-known lion mascot, thanked AEON for a memorable 16 years at their complex.

"Lion would like to thank AEON for a memorable 16 years of a journey that has provided the community with essential goods during the ups and downs.

"With a heavy heart, Lion would like to bid farewell and let's go down memory lane together by visiting AEON for the very last time before 31 July," read the Facebook post.

Commenting under the farewell post on Facebook, many Malaysians shared their memories on AEON's long tenure in Sunway Pyramid and their personal attachment to it over the years

One Malaysian recalled how his first job was at AEON Sunway Pyramid between the years 2010 and 2012, having worked as a management trainee for that period of time.

In a touching blast from the past, another user also mentioned how they worked part-time as a promoter for AEON after finishing their PMR examination back in 2007.

In a link that was attached under the caption of the Facebook post, Sunway Pyramid officials revealed some of their upcoming plans for the use of the space upon AEON's departure

Referred to as the Sunway Pyramid Enhancement Progress, the complex stated that AEON had been moving out through stages, with the First Floor, Ground Floor, and Lower Ground 1 (LG1) floor having exited as of 2 July. The Lower Ground 2 (LG2) floor is said to officially move out by 31 July.

However, Sunway Pyramid also stated that they will be opening a new grocery store that will be situated at LG2, writing that updates will be added to the Sunway Pyramid website and social media pages in time. Other stores located near AEON that will be affected by the enhancement will be relocated, though no specific stores have been named as of yet.

Aside from that, the complex also wrote on their website that consumers can expect a pop-up grocery coming in March 2024, with a full opening that same October.
