After almost 20 years, BORDERS Bookstore will officially cease operations in Malaysia on 31 August

Originally birthed from the American multinational book and music retailer, Borders Group, the bookstore chain made its way to Malaysia back in 2005.

Operating under Berjaya Books Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Berjaya Corporation, the first BORDERS bookstore in Malaysia opened in Berjaya Times Square itself.

Currently functioning in four stores around Kuala Lumpur; Quill City Mall, Bangsar Village II, Pantai Hospital Kuala Lumpur, and Gleneagles Hospital Kuala Lumpur, it was reported by Free Malaysia Today (FMT) that the Bangsar Village II outlet will be closing come 31 July.

The bookstore chain has not stated when its other outlets will be shutting down. SAYS has reached out to BORDERS for a statement.

In a statement by Berjaya Books Sdn Bhd, the management of BORDERS Malaysia thanked customers for supporting their store over the years

"We are truly grateful for the trust and loyalty you have shown us and we would not have been able to come this far without you.

"Although our journey is coming to an end, our commitment to our customers remains unchanged. We will ensure that you receive the best customer service until the very end," stated a notice at the Bangsar Village II BORDERS outlet, as reported by FMT.

Additionally, a statement on the official BORDERS Malaysia website conveyed that their online store ceased operations as of 31 May.
