A man reportedly slapped his wife outside a shopping mall in Kota Warisan, Sepang last week because she took too long to buy chicken rice

Sepang district police chief ACP Norhizam Bahaman said the man, in his 50s, was arrested after a 29-second video of the incident went viral on social media.

According to the New Straits Times, Norhizam said investigations confirmed that the victim, the man's 35-year-old wife, was buying food inside the mall at the time of the incident.

"The victim was allegedly late in coming out, which angered the suspect before he proceeded to slap her," he said.

Malay Mail reported that the case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code and Section 18 of the Domestic Violence Act 1994.

The suspect is under remand to assist in investigations.
