"I Didn't Do Anything Wrong" — Unapologetic Tourist Arrested For Slapping Woman's Buttocks
The man was planning to return to his home country before the arrest.
A Polish man was caught on CCTV slapping a woman's buttocks at a convenience store in Bangkok, Thailand
The footage, which captured the incident on 21 December, shows 31-year-old Piotr approaching a young woman from behind and hitting her butt before walking away nonchalantly.
The woman, a Thai national, initially thought it was a friend playing a prank on her and was shocked to find that it was a stranger who had slapped her. The act drew the attention of store staff and other customers, and the woman quickly left the store in embarrassment, reported The Nation.
The woman subsequently filed a complaint with the Thung Maha Mek police station, seeking an official apology from Piotr.
In an attempt to resolve the situation, the police contacted the agent who managed Piotr's rental condominium and requested their assistance in conveying the summons to the Polish tourist, encouraging Piotr to come to the police station and offer an apology to the victim.
However, all the woman received was an unremorseful response.
Piotr did not meet with the victim, believing that he did not do anything wrong
He communicated through the rental agent, saying that he did not hit the woman very hard and had made similar gestures at entertainment venues without any complaints.
"No one said anything and I think I did not do anything wrong. The law cannot punish me for this action. I will fly back to my country soon," the man said.
Unsatisfied with his response and lack of remorse, the woman pressed charges against Piotr
In a video shared by the Metropolitan Police Bureau on 15 January, authorities arrived at Piotr's rented condo and informed him that an arrest warrant was issued against him for charges of committing obscenity against a person above the age of 15.
The Metropolitan Police Bureau stated that regardless of nationality, individuals who commit offences in Thailand will be punished according to Thai law.
"Piotr's actions are considered an indecent act under Article 278 of the Criminal Code, which carries a penalty of up to 10 years in prison and/or a fine of 200,000 baht (approximately RM26,288)," the statement read.
Upon his arrest, Piotr admitted to being the man in the CCTV footage but declined to comment further. He was then taken to the Thung Maha Mek police station for further legal action.
