On Wednesday, 3 November, a man slashed his son's throat multiple times following an argument over switching television channels
The incident took place in their home in Jalan Kemudi, Bernam Jaya, Hulu Bernam.
Bernama reported that the 71-year-old father slashed his 37-year-old son three times on the neck using a knife taken from the kitchen. Prior to slashing him, the father had pushed the son, who hit the wall and fell.
The 71-year-old father, however, asked a neighbour to alert the police, claiming that his son had tried to take his own life
According to Hulu Selangor police chief Supt Arsad Kamaruddin, he then lodged a police report, saying that he discovered his 37-year-old son lying in a pool of blood in the living room at about 12.55pm.
Prior to lodging the police report, he also went out to ask for help from a shop in Taman Bernam Jaya, saying his son was bleeding and unconscious at home, reported The Star.
"However, our investigation found that the victim had deep slash wounds on his neck, which is not consistent with [...] suicide," Arsad was quoted as saying.
Following which, the father revealed that he had a fight with his son.
"He then took out a knife from the kitchen and tussled with his son, who ended up with three slash wounds on his neck," he said, adding that police seized the weapon and the father has been remanded.
Police also confiscated a shirt and a pair of trousers worn by the suspect.
