The Road Transport Department (JPJ) today, 4 November, reminded motorists that installing 'fancy' number plates are against the law

In a Facebook post, JPJ said that motorists are advised to comply with the rules to install vehicle registration numbers according to the specifications set under the Road Transport Act (APJ) 1987.

Those found violating the rules can be fined between RM300 to RM3,000.

In March this year, 76 notices were issued to motorists for using 'fancy' registration number plates.

Just last month, a number of notices were issued to those with modified registration number plates.

In the post, JPJ also shared examples of the 'fancy' plates:

According to the department, people can report such vehicles to JPJ

"People are advised to report any vehicle that has a confusing, vague or 'fancy' registration number," it said.

The complaint can be channelled through [email protected] along with vehicle photos and other relevant details.
