The Kedah Road Transport Department (JPJ) impounded a commercial lorry after discovering that its Motor Vehicle Licence (LKM), commonly known as road tax, had expired for nearly three decades
Enforcement officers flagged down the vehicle during an operation in the Jerlun district, uncovering a string of critical safety and legal violations.
Inspection records revealed that the lorry had been operating without valid insurance coverage or a mandatory PUSPAKOM safety inspection. Furthermore, authorities found that the driver lacked a valid Goods Driving Licence (GDL), rendering the operation entirely illegal on public roads.
According to Kedah JPJ, the impoundment serves to remove non-compliant commercial vehicles that pose severe hazards to other road users
Department officials reiterated that fleet owners and individual drivers must maintain current road tax, valid insurance policies, up-to-date PUSPAKOM certifications, and valid vocational licences before deploying heavy vehicles on the road network.
This operation forms part of JPJ's broader national crackdown on heavy and commercial transport compliance. Authorities have continuously tightened oversight across Peninsular Malaysia to catch repeat offenders who evade routine vehicle inspections, drive without mandatory insurance, or operate under expired licences.
