The Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has cancelled its 2024 Hari Kebangsaan Eve Celebrations scheduled for 30 August at Dataran Merdeka

The cancellation follows the Masjid India sinkhole tragedy, in which one woman disappeared, as well as other recent incidents around Kuala Lumpur, reported Bernama.

In a post uploaded on its Facebook page last night, 28 August, DBKL urged Malaysians to "embrace the true meaning of independence with a deep sense of patriotism".

The sinkhole which appeared along Jalan Masjid India last Friday, 23 August, swallowed a woman who has yet to be found

As of today, 29 August, the search and rescue (SAR) operation to find the victim, a tourist from India identified as Vijaya Lakshmi, has entered its seventh day with no new leads on her whereabouts.
