MCMC Sends Aliff Syukri's Phone To Forensics Over Viral Raya Music Video Teaser

Previously, Aliff Syukri issued an apology, claiming that the video was meant as a joke.

Celebrity entrepreneur Datuk Aliff Syukri Kamarzaman's mobile phone and SIM card, which were used to upload a Hari Raya music video teaser, have been seized by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC)

According to Berita Harian, Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said the device has been sent to the police forensics unit for investigation.

"I understand that after he was called in and had his statement recorded at the MCMC headquarters the other day. His mobile phone and SIM card were seized and sent to forensics for further investigation.

"So far, I have not received any detailed updates," he told reporters at an iftar event with enforcement agencies held at the Kuala Lumpur World Trade Centre (WTCKL) yesterday, 4 April.

Earlier, local media outlets reported that MCMC would investigate the Hari Raya music video teaser following public criticism

Fahmi said he had personally viewed a portion of the video and observed comments from netizens urging his ministry to take action.

According to Kosmo!, the investigation is being conducted under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act Malaysia 1998 (Act 588), which prohibits the production and dissemination of communications that are offensive, obscene, or indecent with the intent to annoy or harass others.

On Tuesday, 2 April, Aliff Syukri issued an apology via his Instagram account, claiming that the video was intended as a joke

The apology came after a continuous stream of criticisms directed at him for sharing the video, which depicts him with other male dancers wearing unusual costumes.

He also urged the public not to blow the issue out of proportion.
