In a bid to extend financial assistance to the citizens, especially the B40 and M40 groups, the Ministry of Finance (MOF) today, 28 July, said it is fast-tracking the disbursement of RM100 in e-wallet credits

In line with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's directive, Deputy Minister of Finance I Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan said that the distribution of RM100 e-wallet credits will benefit millions of people.

Commenting on the announcement made by Anwar, Ahmad expressed his optimism about the positive impact it would have on the nation's economy, while emphasising that this move is aimed at preparing the people to embrace the digital economy, which is rapidly becoming the norm in the modern world.

"We are fully prepared to move forward with the disbursement of RM100 e-wallet credits to approximately 10 million eligible citizens, who fall under the category of earning less than RM100,000 annually," he said.

"This initiative will empower them to become active participants in the cashless economy and encourage the use of various digital payment applications," Berita Harian quoted the deputy minister as saying.

Highlighting the significance of this modest RM100 disbursement, Ahmad emphasised that the real value lies in the underlying concept

According to him, this move aims to educate and equip citizens with the necessary knowledge and skills to adapt to the ever-evolving economic landscape and train people to deal with a 'cashless society'.

Additionally, he mentioned that MOF is also prepared to implement the RM300 Special Appreciation Aid for civil servants of grade 56 and below, and RM200 assistance for government pensioners.

Ahmad also stated that the government is taking measures to ensure that citizens who do not have e-cash applications, especially the elderly, will get assistance from either their family members or local leaders.
