Social activist Kuan Chee Heng has offered help to a mother-son duo, who have been living on a palm oil plantation in Perak for decades without electricity and water
In a Facebook post published yesterday, 24 June, Kuan — or more fondly known as Uncle Kentang — said he was visiting a village in Kampung Gajah and discovered the living place of a 90-year-old mother and her 50-year-old son.
"When I saw the house in the remote area at the palm oil plantation, I was shocked. The so-called house was in a disrepair state with overgrown bushes obstructing it," said Kuan, who is a former police officer.
"There was no bed, no kitchen, no table, and chairs. Water and electricity were not available either."

Kuan said that the mother and son refuse to move out of the dilapidated house because they are afraid it will be confiscated by a certain party
"They live on river water and rain. They eat plants they find around," he related.
"The son occasionally goes to the market to buy something."
When asked if they needed money, Kuan said the son would prefer two cows instead as they can reproduce and generate resources.
"We asked the villagers to buy two cows and give them to the mother and son," Kuan said.

Kuan is planning to raise RM25,000 for the pair to build a simple house as the current structure often gets flooded by the rain
"When the water level during floods runs high, it endangers them. So we have to build a house to ensure their safety," he said.
Kuan's post has received over 1,600 likes at the time of writing.
Many netizens thanked the social activist for always helping people in need, while others wished the mother and son a good and healthy life.
