Tebrau member of parliament (MP) Jimmy Puah Wee Tse said the person who filmed a man and a teen in a compromising position in their car impersonated a policeman during the incident

In a Facebook post on Saturday, 8 April, the Johor PKR vice-chairman said the person pretended to be a cop, threatened, and followed the couple after he found them in a red Perodua Axia parked in Taman Kota Masai in Pasir Gudang, Johor Bahru.

"The cameraman also tried to ask the couple for their identification cards (ICs), and when they refused to follow instructions, he threatened the couple," said Puah, who is also a lawyer.

"They also tried to escape, but were chased by the person until they were near the Taman Pasir Putih police station," he added.

He urged the police to continue investigating the case to provide a full picture.

Puah, along with lawyer Tan Chia Wei, provided pro bono legal advice and assistance to the couple

After hearing their story, the MP is of the opinion that the penalty for Section 377D of the Penal Code for gross indecency, which the couple was investigated under, is too harsh.

The provision stipulates that the suspects may face up to two years of imprisonment if convicted.

"In my opinion, if they are convicted, this will cause (the couple) irreparable damage," he said.

"There's no denying that what they did was immoral. However, they did not hurt anyone. Now, they are the biggest victims. Is it meaningful to jail them?" the MP asked.

Speaking to reporters yesterday, 9 April, after meeting the police, he said the authorities are investigating the case from every angle, including those who uploaded the video of the incident.

The incident caught the public's attention after a clip of the couple in a compromising position went viral last Thursday, 6 April:
