Over 45,000 In Kelantan And Terengganu Displaced As Floods Worsen In East Coast
The floodwaters have claimed five lives so far.
As of 10pm on Monday, 19 December, over 45,000 flood victims have been evacuated to flood relief centres in five states, with East Coast states Kelantan and Terengganu hit the hardest
Heavy downpour and continuous rain has led to flooding in 14 districts in five states in the peninsular, namely Kelantan, Terengganu, Perak, Pahang, and Johor.
According to Bernama, tens of thousands of residents had already been displaced by the torrential rains, with evacuees still increasing due to worsening water levels.

In Terengganu, the number of flood victims rose sharply to 29,717 people from 8,214 families yesterday evening
The locals are currently seeking shelter at 273 relief centres operating in all eight districts in the state.
Kemaman was the worst affected, followed by Hulu Terengganu, Besut, Setiu, Dungun, Kuala Nerus, Kuala Terengganu, and Marang.

Meanwhile, in Kelantan, 14,359 flood victims from 3,942 families were rescued and placed in 104 relief centres across nine districts
The affected areas include Kota Bharu, Pasir Mas, Tumpat, Bachok, Tanah Merah, Pasir Puteh, Kuala Krai, Machang, and Jeli.
While the rain has stopped, the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (JPS) has warned that the water in nine rivers around Kelantan are still exceeding dangerous levels.

A two-year-old girl was the first casualty of the floods in Terengganu, believed to have fallen into the waters and drowned in the currents on Sunday, 18 December.
Yesterday, three sisters, aged 27 to 33, were electrocuted while wading through the floods in Tumpat, Kelantan, while in a separate incident, a 15-month-old boy was found drowned in Rantau Panjang.
