METMalaysia Issues Northeast Monsoon Warning For Heavy Rain & High Tides
The department projects that four to six episodes of constant heavy downpour will occur during this period.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department (METMalaysia) has warned that the Northeast Monsoon will hit the country earlier than expected
According to a statement yesterday, 3 November, the department warned that the monsoon season is expected to begin from next Monday, 7 November, to March next year.
It projects that four to six episodes of constant heavy downpour will occur during this period.
As with previous monsoon seasons, METMalaysia warned that the continuous heavy rain for days may cause floods in low-lying areas and areas close to rivers
"If the continuous heavy rain occurs simultaneously with the high tide phenomenon, the risk of floods will increase," it added.
The department warned that the high tide phenomenon is expected to occur on these dates:
– 6 to 11 November, and 22 to 27 November
– 7 to 12 December, and 22 to 26 December
– 6 to 10 January, and 21 to 25 January
It also warned that strong winds from the northeast will also cause turbulent waves in the South China Sea during this time.
People have been urged to prepare themselves for the monsoon season, and to be alert for the latest weather warnings and advisories from the department
