About two to three million books were damaged at the Big Bad Wolf Books and BookXcess warehouse in Shah Alam during the devastating floods in Selangor two weeks ago

According to Bernama, Big Bad Wolf Books and BookXcess co-founder Andrew Yap said they are still in the midst of evaluating losses at their Taman Alam Indah warehouse.

"However, from the initial assessment, millions of books were definitely damaged, destroyed, and could not be salvaged, along with some equipment in the warehouse," he said.

The company's Facebook page had, on 21 December, shared photos and a video of thousands of books in their warehouse getting submerged in and ruined by floodwaters.

Bernama also reported about the tragedy on Facebook, posting somber photos of the damaged books sitting in heaps outdoors

"Broken hearts for book lovers..." reads their sad caption on a post that has garnered over 1,500 shares and thousands of sad reactions.

"It is not easy looking at three million books at the Big Bad Wolf Books warehouse in Section 33 damaged by the floods last week, until the clean-up has to be done with excavators," said the national news agency.

"Not to mention seeing a child trying to find books that can be saved among the piles."

Despite the loss, Yap said Big Bad Wolf Books still aims to donate to surrounding communities that have been more heavily impacted by the floods

"We look forward to working with those within the vicinity of our warehouse and we also welcome the public to join in our altruistic efforts," he said.

Meanwhile, he assured that all other 14 BookXcess bookstores nationwide, BookXcess Online, and their online shops on Shopee are still in operation and are open to orders.
