Police have detained a couple for making off with a bracelet worth RM5,000 after pretending to be interested buyers at a gold shop located in Senawang, Seremban

According to New Straits Times, Seremban police chief ACP Arifai Tarawe said the district police operations room received a report of the theft at 4.40pm last Thursday, 16 November.

"Investigations revealed that the male suspect, who allegedly wore a face mask, pretended to be interested in buying a RM5,000 gold bracelet before absconding with it," NST quoted him as saying.

"It is understood that the suspect got into a car with a woman waiting inside the vehicle outside the premises," he added.

The 46-year-old male suspect and his 35-year-old wife proceeded to pawn the stolen jewellery at a shop located on Jalan Pudu, Kuala Lumpur

The couple was subsequently arrested at the southbound Seremban Rest and Service Area (R&R) along the North-South Expressway (NSE) at 10.50pm the same day.

"We also seized a Perodua Axia car, a gold bracelet that had been pawned in the federal capital for RM3,600 and cash amounting to RM3,600," the English daily quoted Arifai as saying.

Further investigations revealed that the male suspect has 14 prior criminal records involving drugs and other crimes

Arifai also stated preliminary urine tests showed that the male suspect tested positive for methamphetamine.

"The case is being investigated under Section 380 of the Penal Code and Section 15(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952."

"Both suspects have been remanded for four days to assist in the investigation," he said.
