12-Year-Old Boy Gets Electrocuted While Retrieving Ball From TNB Substation
Members of the public were seen trying to save the child.
A 12-year-old boy suffered serious burns all over his body after being electrocuted while trying to retrieve a ball from a Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) substation yesterday, 16 November
According to FMT, Mohd Dawisy Zarif Mohd Khairi was playing football with his friends at Taman Sri Bayu in Bayan Lepas, Penang prior to the incident.
At about 4.40pm, he was electrocuted while attempting to retrieve a ball from the substation.
Penang fire and rescue operations officer Hirman Mat Rodzi said that his department received a distress call at 4.55pm.
Members from the Seri Balik Pulau fire station and an Emergency Service Assistance Unit (EMRS) were immediately deployed to the scene.
"Upon arriving at the location, a child was found to have suffered burns almost all over his body after he entered the substation," said Mohamad Hirman
"The child was found by members of the public and was taken to a safe place before the fire and rescue department arrived.
"The victim was then given first aid treatment before being taken to Penang Hospital in an ambulance," Buletin TV3 quoted him as saying.
A 10-man team conducted an assessment to ensure the substation was safe before it was handed over to TNB personnel for further action, reported FMT.
In a statement last night, TNB said that an internal investigation is currently underway to determine the cause of the incident.
