The police are not ruling out the possibility of a child pornography syndicate being involved in the kidnapping of a six-year-old from a shopping mall in Johor Bahru last month

According to the New Straits Times, the motive for the girl's abduction has not yet been established even though the girl has been rescued and five suspects were arrested.

However, investigators are digging deeper into one of the five suspects after child sexual abuse material and illegal sex toys were found in his home in Kulai.

The suspect is believed to be involved in a child pornography ring on the dark web.

Johor police chief Commissioner M Kumar said he could not reveal further details of the investigation, but described the material found in the suspect's home as "heinous".

The 31-year-old man was rearrested by the police on Saturday, 3 August, as he was earlier released on bail for the kidnapping

The man is now being investigated under Section 10 of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 for possessing child sexual abuse material and Section 292 of the Penal Code for possessing obscene material.

The first offence is punishable by up to five years' imprisonment, a fine of up to RM10,000, or both, upon conviction, while the second is punishable by up to three years' imprisonment, a fine, or both.

The police chief cautioned the public to stay informed about current crime trends and to educate their children on dangers in a public space to prevent further crimes against minors.
