The ewallet app, launched by Chinese tech giant Tencent in Malaysia in 2019, offered locals the opportunity to pay for items in ringgit.

In a notice posted on WeChat Pay MY's website, the platform said it's ceasing its operations in Malaysia due to an adjustment in its business strategy
"Users will be able to withdraw the balance in their ewallet via the ewallet portal until 31 December 2024. However, users [can] opt for special withdrawal arrangement from 1 January 2025," the notice read.
"It was a great honour to have your support throughout the years. We appreciate your understanding and apologise for any inconvenience caused," WeChat Pay MY added.
