PTPTN Borrowers Who Graduate With First-Class Honours Will Be Exempted From Repaying
"This is to encourage students to work hard to obtain the best result for their tertiary education," said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
Students who borrow from the National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) and achieve outstanding results in their tertiary education will be exempted from repaying their loans
According to New Straits Times, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob made the announcement at PTPTN's Silver Jubilee celebration on Wednesday, 27 July.
He said PTPTN borrowers who graduated from 2019 onwards with first-class honours in their bachelor's degrees will be eligible for the exemption.

The exemption will go to every student who meets the criteria, irrespective of their economic status and background
"This is to encourage students to work hard to obtain the best result for their tertiary education," said Ismail Sabri during the speech.
According to The Malaysian Reserve, the waiver was previously only given to students from B40 households since Budget 2019.

Ismail Sabri added that PTPTN, which turns 25 this year, has helped provide many Malaysians access to education
"To date, PTPTN has assisted 3.67 million people in the country and provided RM66.87 billion worth of loans," he said.
"I believe many people who benefited from PTPTN's assistance went on to achieve success [in their] employment and standard of living, subsequently becoming assets to the nation."
The premier added that the fund will ensure no members of the Keluarga Malaysia would be left behind under the country's development agenda.
