Earlier today, 27 July, Ipoh High Court sentenced Tronoh Assemblyman Paul Yong Choo Kiong to 13 years in jail and two strokes of the cane for raping his maid in 2019

According to Harian Metro, Judge Datuk Abdul Wahab Mohamed made the decision after finding that the defence had failed to raise reasonable doubt at the end of its case.

Yong, who is also a former state executive council (exco) and treasurer for Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM), was convicted for raping his 23-year-old Indonesian maid in his residence from 8.15pm to 9.15pm on 7 July 2019.

The 51-year-old PBM politician was called to defence at the Ipoh High Court back in December 2019

According to Malay Mail, Abdul Wahab said that the victim gave consistent statements throughout the trial even though she was constantly questioned by the lawyers, adding that she was sad and crying when testifying.

The victim said in her statement that Yong had penetrated her private parts with his private parts. She tried to fight him off and scream, but she could not be heard as the door was closed.

"She tried resisting the accused, but was unable to do so as he was bigger than her. She ran to the bathroom feeling disgusted and quickly washed herself," said Abdul Wahab.

"The doctor who examined the victim had also testified that the victim had a fresh tear in her hymen and all these elements prove the prima facie," he added.

Yong defected from DAP in March 2020 following the political manoeuvring dubbed 'Sheraton Move'.

He joined Bersatu the next year before defecting again to join PBM in December 2021.
