A retired man in Ampang is under investigation for the alleged abuse of his 66-year-old wife

Ampang Jaya district police chief ACP Mohamad Farouk Eshak told Harian Metro that the incident took place when the 67-year-old suspect became upset at his wife for taking too long to cook the chicken rendang he requested.

A fight then broke out at their home on Jalan Pinang, Kampung Melayu, around 10.30am on 21 March.

The man slapped his wife before sitting on her and spitting in her face

Mohamad Farouk told the Malay daily that the suspect tried to choke the victim but she fought back.

The two then struggled until they both fell off their bed.

"Due to the incident, the victim sustained injuries to her body and she developed a bruise on her chin but she is not sure of the reason behind it," Mohamad Farouk explained.

The case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code and Section 18A of the Domestic Violence Act

Sinar Harian reported that the victim lives with the suspect as well as his 86-year-old paralysed mother.

The housewife also suffers from heart disease, high blood pressure, and diabetes, which requires four insulin injections in a day.

Asking for help is not a sign of weakness.
