Miss Grand Malaysia Jasebel Robert has made history by making it as a Top 10 Finalist in the Miss Grand International 2020 pageant

The stunning 25-year-old was chosen into the top 10 out of 64 contestants and also took home the Miss Popular Vote award during the finals that took place on Saturday, 27 March.

Although Miss Grand USA Abena Appiah took the crown and winning title, Jasebel is the first ever Malaysian contestant to reach the final 10 of the competition.

The rest of the runners-up are from Philippines, Guatemala, Indonesia, Brazil, Czech Republic, Puerto Rico, Thailand, and Argentina.

The Miss Grand participants are judged and given scores based on interviews, preliminary competitions, and social media votes

During the preliminaries, Jasebel was already a fan favourite and consistently got high votes in the pre-pageant competitions such as the swimsuit and evening gown segments.

She also stole attention from social media users and judges in her Mak Yong-themed national costume — a costume created by local designer Ain Mohamad who was inspired by the olden Malay theatrical dance.

According to the Miss Grand Malaysia Facebook page, she came in top 10 for Best in National Costume in the finals.

The beauty queen from Kuala Lumpur said she is extremely grateful and proud to bring Malaysia's name to the international stage

Taking to Instagram after the finals, Jasebel wrote, "This post is dedicated to everyone who put tremendous effort into voting and supporting me, I can't explain how grateful I am towards you guys. This award is for all of you, not me!"

She also thanked the pageant for the opportunity as well as the other contestants for their strength and empowerment through the competition.

"I believe all the girls are feeling the same. The pageantry is a very emotional journey because it's personal to each and every single one of us," she said.
