Sultan Abdullah Will Be Proclaimed As Agong Tomorrow So Pahang Gets A State Holiday

Sultan Abdullah will take his oath of office tomorrow, 31 January.

The Pahang state government has declared tomorrow, 31 January, as a state holiday in conjunction with the proclamation of its ruler as the new Yang di-Pertuan Agong

China Press reported Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail as saying that the decision was approved by Sultan Abdullah Ahmad Shah, who will be taking his oath of office as the 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong tomorrow.

Wan Rosdy met with reporters after attending the Pahang executive committee meeting earlier today, 30 January. 

Wan Rosdy said that the holiday was declared to portray the Pahang people's pride in their ruler

"The last time such a event was celebrated was 40 years ago, where Paduka Ayahanda Sultan Ahmad Shah was proclaimed as the seventh Yang di-Pertuan Agong," Wan Rosdy was quoted as saying by Sin Chew Daily

Sultan Ahmad Shah reigned from 1979 to 1984.

Sultan Abdullah will be leaving for Kuala Lumpur tomorrow morning for the proclamation ceremony

The Star reported that Sultan Abdullah will be travelling to Kuala Lumpur with his consort Tengku Ampuan Pahang Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah Binti Almarhum Sultan Iskandar.

Both Sultan Abdullah and Sultan Nazrin Muizuddin Shah of Perak will take their oaths of office as Yang di-Pertuan Agong and the Deputy Yang di-Pertuan Agong tomorrow.
