A couple in Indonesia is making headlines for the unique Internet-inspired name they chose for their baby last year

31-year-old Andi Cahya Saputra and 27-year-old Ella Karina from West Java welcomed a newborn on 30 November 2018.

"His name is just Google. G-o-o-g-l-e, only one word," Andi said

He told Kumparan that the tech-inspired name crossed his mind when his wife was seven months pregnant.

However, he had difficulty narrowing one down from his long list of options until right before his son was born.

"I had Microsoft, iPhone, iOs, Windows, and many others [in mind]," the man explained

"From religion, we considered the names of the prophets, and from the more usual names, we also considered Albar Dirgantara Putra," he said.

However, when the baby was born, Andi decided that no ordinary name would suit his son.

"At last, I took a name from the technology category,” Andi said.

Among family members that had reservations about the name Google were Andi's wife and father

According to Coconuts Jakarta, Ella answered "baby boy" whenever she was asked what their baby's name was for the first three months.

Andi's father asked for his grandson to have a last name for administrative purposes, but the man refused because he felt that this would alter the essence of the name.

"I told my father, Pak, Google has a great meaning, because I hope Google can help many people, become a useful person to others," Andi explained

Now, seven months since her son's birth, the name Google has grown on Ella.

"I hope my son will be a leader who leads many people," she told Kompas.

Despite this, Andi admitted to still getting criticism for his choice of name.

"Some even said [I named my son Google] to get financial compensation, or that my son would be recruited by Google in the future, or gets his schooling paid for by Google," the 31-year-old said.

"I said 'Amin' to positive messages, because I try to think positively," he added.
