Uncle Pleads Not Guilty To Obstructing MBPJ Officer From Catching Stray Dogs
If convicted, Patrick Khoo Kian Wui may face up to two years in jail, a RM10,000 fine, or both.
The elderly man who was assaulted by a Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) officer pleaded not guilty to a charge of obstructing a public servant from discharging his duty today, 31 March
According to New Straits Times, Patrick Khoo Kian Wui claimed trial for the charge under Section 186 of the Penal Code when it was read out to him before Magistrate Shahril Anuar Ahmad Mustapa.
Members of the public showed up at the Petaling Jaya Courthouse to show support for him this morning. He appeared calm while he was at the dock.
The charge sheet noted that Khoo deliberately obstructed Azizul Azzim Norehan, a civil servant from MBPJ, from performing his duties.
The 69-year-old is said to have committed the offence at 9pm on 22 March at 7, Jalan 18/17, Taman Kanagapuram in Petaling Jaya.
He was represented by lawyers Rajsurian Pillai and Tay Chee Fu, while deputy public prosecutor Farhanah Fuad prosecuted the case.

The deputy public prosecutor suggested a RM5,000 bail, but Rajsurian pleaded for the lowest bail possible, contending that his client has been cooperative with the police throughout the investigation process.
Rajsurian added that Khoo showed up at the police station without being forced or arrested to meet the investigating officer.
He said his client, who is self-employed, lives alone about 4km away from the court and has a friend who can ensure he attends court proceedings, reported New Straits Times.
After hearing the argument, Shahril Anuar set the bail at RM2,000 with one surety. The case mention is set on 16 June.
In the incident last week, Khoo was seen being assaulted by an MBPJ officer who was using a catch pole to seize his dogs:
Khoo then filed a police report against the city council:
