Due to the increase of flooding incidents in the state of Johor, the Social Welfare Department has doubled its efforts in providing essentials to flood victims.

However, Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong is not pleased with the quality of supplies provided, specifically in regards to the food.

In a short video posted on his official Facebook page on Sunday, 5 March, the Ayer Hitam member of parliament (MP) visited one of the relief centres in his constituency and expressed his dissatisfaction with the quality of the food provided to flood victims.

Wee questioned the standard and portion size of the food, as well as punctuality of delivery.

"Saddening! Food for the flood victims was delivered late, and was of poor quality. There are some who also complained that they received raw rice in their food packet. I am seriously upset and saddened with what has happened," Wee wrote in the video cpation.

The Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA) president was also informed that many flood victims received their allocated meals late, with some centres only receiving breakfast packets after 11am, lunch meals after 4pm, and dinner as late as 10pm.

To tackle the issue, Wee said that he would speak to welfare authorities to allow flood victims to cook more nutritious and delicious meals for themselves

The Ayer Hitam MP also urged caterers to allow the Village Development and Security Committee (JPKK) to shoulder some of the responsibilities, instead of providing subpar food when tasks get too overwhelming.

"Please don't provide poor quality food. Of course the people will get mad. I urge the welfare authorities to think of the flood victims' welfare and to make it their priority," Wee said.
