Woman Buys RM1.97 Million Apartment Only To Find Out Someone Had Died There
The 31-year-old didn't think about checking the unit's history because she needed a place to stay in under three months after selling her old flat.
A woman in Singapore had the shock of her life when she discovered that a person had died in her newly-bought apartment that was worth SGD600,000 (RM1.97 million).
But that wasn't the worst part.
The woman, surnamed Chen, bought the HDB flat in August 2022 and moved into the place in December with her two sons, father-in-law, and her brother's family after spending thousands of dollars on major renovations.
According to Oriental Daily, the 31-year-old didn't think about checking the unit's history because she needed a place to stay in under three months as she sold her old flat.
Since the new unit, located on Potong Pasir Avenue 3, was near her son's school, she thought it would be the right fit for her family.
That is, until she realised there was persistent leakage in the kitchen ceiling.

After calling the contractor back to investigate the issue, he discovered that the leak had lasted 10 years and could not be painted over. He advised her to contact the authorities.
Chen, then, discovered the truth about her apartment unit: the remains of the previous owner were found in the kitchen in July 2020.
The deceased, He Guo Guang (transliteration), was an elderly occupant who was born in 1948 and had been living alone. The National Environment Agency found his remains when conducting dengue inspections, during which a locksmith was called in to break the front door since authorities could not contact the owner.
It is believed the deceased was only discovered nine years after he passed away because the calendar in the unit was turned to June 2011 when he was found, as reported by Lianhe Wanbao.

Chen was shocked, but decided that it would be futile to complain to the real estate agent
However, she hopes that in the future, the real estate agent can inform buyers of the truth in advance when selling houses.
Her top priority now is to deal with the water leakage, as there are children and elderly family members in the flat.
